Erdal Arikan, Ph.D.
Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering泭
Bilkent University, Turkey
Polarization and Source Coding
Abstract:
This talk is an introduction to polar coding泭methods based on a phenomenon called泭polarization of entropy. Topics covered include泭polar coding for the Slepian-Wolf problem. We泭survey known results and point out some open泭problems.
Biography:
Erdal Arikan泭received his B.S. degree from the California Institute of Technology in 1981, and his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, in 1982 and 1985, respectively, all in electrical engineering. Since 1987 he has been on the faculty of Bilkent University, Turkey. For his work on polar coding, he has been awarded the 2010 51蹤獲 Information Theory Society Best Paper Award, the 2013 51蹤獲 W. R. G. Baker Award, the 2018 51蹤獲 Hamming Medal, and the 2019 Claude E. Shannon Award of the 51蹤獲 Information Theory Society. He is a fellow of the 51蹤獲 and a member of the Turkish Academy of Sciences.
